why you are disappointed with photos of yourself and how to fix it
Finally! You receive your final images from your shoot. You open your gallery... and your heart sinks.
"Is this really what I look like?"
"Why do i look so angry?"
And many more questions going through your mind.
Clients come with me with this problem all the time : they don't like any of the images they got from previous shoots and they NEED a change.
So what is it about you that you like what you see in the mirror when you leave the house but professional shoots seem to get the worst out of you?
Well the good news is: it has nothing to do with what you actually look like !
Trust me when I say this : you're a hottie IRL and you are a hottie on camera.
There are a few reasons why you might be feeling ugly:
🌷You are used to what you see in the selfie camera.
Camera with which you're in control of your facial expressions, your angles, and lighting. You see everything happen in real time and you can make quick changes.
🌷Your previous photoshoots have been done in a context where you didn't have the opportunity to sit with the photographer for them to get to know you.
Real connection is key for a successful photoshoot.
🌷You did not have a nice time during the photoshoot.
Perhaps you felt rushed by the photographer, or you were in a dark place at the time of booking.
🌷You have body dysmorphia.
You focus intensely on some parts of your body or face that you deem flawed and can't seem to see past them.
Ok well how do we fix this ?
Here are my suggestions :
✨Make sure you're able to build a connection with your photographer.
The way I do this is through a thorough questionnaire and a brainstorm call, as well as stalking you endlessly (sorry). But you can also get a sense of who someone is through their social media.
✨Open up about your insecurities with your photographer.
Trust me when I say this is something we need to know so we can best work with you.
✨Ask all the questions you need to your photographer.
Know your terms and conditions, deliverables and what to expect from the shoot so you minimise surprises.
✨If something is going on, open up to your photographer so they know how best accommodate you.
✨When you receive your final gallery, open it with a loved one next to you.
They'll make sure to hype you up and shut down any mean thought you may have about your body.
One of the most important things to ensure you like yourself on your image is to work with your photographer. This is why I find important to build a rapport with my clients through written communication but also throughout the brand shoot process.
And if you think I’m what you need, book a discovery call with me :)
